Maddock, Leicester & Burslem Fund

The object of this Charity is to promote the education of young people who reside or have a parent residing within the boundaries of the City of Stoke on Trent and the Borough of Newcastle under Lyme.  Education includes social and physical training.

The panel will be looking to reward excellence and educational achievement.  They will always take note of any candidate from an under privileged background who is achieving educational success.  The Panel are looking for good grades and outstanding ability taking into account the candidate’s background.  So, normally, candidates should have achieved or be expected to achieve A or A* grades in GCSE and high grades at AS or A level.  The exception would be a pupil with learning difficulties, special needs or a very underprivileged background who had achieved substantially over and above what would be normally expected for that particular pupil.

  • Individuals resident or have parents in Stoke on Trent, the borough of Newcastle under Lyme, (post codes  ST1 –ST8) for a period of not less than 7 years
  • Applicants should normally be between the ages of 15 and 21.

Grant Amount

Requests between £200 and £1000 will be considered.  Although there is no set limit the panel are not looking to grant considerable sums on any one applicant by paying for their education in full but to provide assistance for specific requirements of a relatively modest amount.

Information Required to Support your Application

It will assist the panel if you can provide details of GCSE results where a UCAS form is not available and anticipated grades at AS and A level would also be appreciated.  The panel would also like to know that university places have been offered where this is applicable.  Please note the panel will not pay a grant where a student is having a gap year but will consider applications with a view to paying the grant after the gap year if the student takes up a place in further education.

The panel will not consider a request to fund the following:

  • Travel Costs
  • Living Expenses
  • Running a motor vehicle
  • Normal everyday expenditure
  • Purchase of new computers
  • Normal everyday clothing
  • Field Trips

Applications will be considered in September of each year.  Applications can be made at any time, but no decision will be taken until the panel meeting.
