Newcastle – Newcastle Borough Community Fund
The Newcastle Borough Community Fund is for the benefit of the whole of Newcastle borough within Staffordshire. Located in the north west of the county, it forms part of the North Staffordshire conurbation, with its main population centre being the town of Newcastle under Lyme, that first received a royal charter from King Henry II in 1173. Bordering Stafford borough to the south, Stoke on Trent to the east, with a small eastern border to the Staffordshire Moorlands, it also borders 2 other counties, Cheshire and Shropshire. The fund will benefit the entire borough of Newcastle under Lyme, rather than just the town itself.
The official launch of the fund took place at Jubilee2 on the evening of Thursday 11th September. The fund has also secured support from important organisations in the area, including Newcastle Borough Council. The fund will initially be steered by a board of ‘Donor Advisor’s’ that will be made up of local representatives from the Borough Council, the Staffordshire Community Foundation, the local business community and the local voluntary and community sector.
This fund, like other community funds is designed to help small community and voluntary groups across the borough, to ensure they can get the help and financial support that they need. Often unable to compete with large regional or national charities, it is vitally important that we continue to support these organisations, to ensure that Newcastle Borough has a network of organisations who can provide the locally led and delivered support that is so vital to the health and wellbeing of many across the area.
The fund is set up so that it will exist forever, growing each year, whilst also awarding more in each subsequent year than the previous one. It will contain contributions from the Staffordshire Community Foundation, local donors and local business, who care so much about the borough and its people that they want to give something back in a simple, cost effective, but high impact way.
